Active Conferences
In June and September 2008, the Active Conferences are taking place around
the UK. If your school has been shortlisted to become a regional consultant,
you’ll hear from us in the week of 7 June and you’ll be invited
to send a delegation to one of the conferences.
The conferences will be fun and active events. At the national conference
you’ll meet with celebrities such as Jamie Oliver and Kelly Holmes.
The regional conferences will be held at fantastic venues, some of which
you’ll be able to tour.
Regional Active Conferences
The regional Active Conferences will take place between the 20 and
27 June. Have a look at the table with the dates for your region.
You should keep it free and make sure your teacher or group leader
knows about it, just in case your school or group will be chosen
as one of the regional consultants.
Regional consultant schools and groups will receive a conference pack with
information about the event and how to prepare for it.
Not sure which region you are in? Look at the regional map.

Each school or group will be able to bring four students or Scouts/Guides and two adults to the

Fun day out
The regional conferences will be a great and fun day out for your school or group.
You’ll present your entry idea to the judges, tell them about your consultation
at school or group, who helped you with it, and how you think Active Kids could help
your school or group.
You’ll also tour some of the venues. You’ll take part in a special
workshop with Active Kids experts to find out how to lead a top debate and
run other great projects as a school council.
What’s next?
At the end of the day, the judges will choose three schools and groups at each regional
conference to become national consultants. These will be the schools and groups with
the most interesting ideas for Active Kids and the best consultation skills.
They will be invited to become national consultants and attend the national
conference.
There is more information about what the judges are looking for in Judging.
The Active Conferences are also a fantastic opportunity to meet other schools and groups.
You can find out what sort of problems their school councils are dealing with
and what they’re doing to solve them.
Last but not least it’s a fun, active day out.
National Active Conference
Over the summer, Sainsbury’s will draft the Active Kids Manifesto.
This document will include the best ideas for Active Kids the regional consultant
schools and groups have come up with and how they can support schools and groups around the UK.
The Active Kids Manifesto will be presented at the National Conference in
the week of 15 September 2008. 18 national
consultant schools and groups from the regional conferences will
be invited to this exciting event in London alongside celebrities
such as Jamie Oliver and Kelly Holmes and Sainsbury’s
representatives. Each school or group will be able to bring four
students/Scouts/Guides and two teachers/group leaders.
Stars and experts
At the National Conference, consultant schools and groups will discuss the Active
Manifesto. They’ll give their recommendations on the future of Active
Kids and how the scheme can support schools and groups around the country.
There will also be a set of masterclasses on different topics relating to
the Active Ideas, such as alternative sports, cooking or enterprise.
The National Conference will be a fantastic opportunity for schools and groups to
meet experts and discuss their ideas, rub shoulders with celebrities, master
the art of debating and most of all have a great and fun day out.
